Sometimes I convince myself I'm not real, or that the world around me is not real, a phenomenon that can be very unsettling. I have been really torn as to whether I should share this info or not. In essence, if you are around an extroverted BPD, you feel like you're living through their emotions while coping with your own at the same time. Ever since my teens, I had a fairly insightful mind and an intellectual grasp of the dangers of living in a dysfunctional home and could articulate what I saw the problems were. A diagnosis of borderline personality disorder could, theoretically, mean that the psychiatrist made a serious attempt at evaluating defense mechanisms and ego integrity; or at least a matching of symptoms to DSM criteria. And the Not all psychiatrists can live up to that, or live up to that all of the time.
